In the heart of Rutland’s picturesque Hambleton village, The Finch’s Arms has long been a celebrated destination known for its warm ambience, quintessentially English décor, and rural luxury. And yet, incredibly, this was my very first visit to this gem! Invited to sample their autumn menu, I found myself in a culinary delight of vegan and vegetarian scrumptiousness and delightful flavours that captured the essence of the season.
Upon arrival, a gin bramble greeted us with tables adorned with floral centrepieces by Barnyard Flowers.
The tasting journey began with a glass of Nyetimber English sparkling and a variety of vegan canapés (padron peppers, crispy arancini, figs, and avocado crostini) as we enjoyed a candle-painting workshop with the extremely talented Gretel and Ginger. Known for her bespoke calligraphy, Gretel and Ginger also provided hand-drawn place names and menus, blending art with dining in a seamless, thoughtful way.
For the main course, I opted for a spring onion, squash and feta rosti, served with garlic-infused kale and butternut squash purée. While dessert isn’t typically my go-to, the rosemary-poached pears, paired with vanilla cream and pickled walnuts, were perfectly balanced with an autumnal twist and something I'd order again and again.
Nestled in Hambleton, The Finch’s Arms embodies the charm of the English countryside. With its cosy, characterful interiors and warm, inviting atmosphere, it’s easy to see why it’s a favourite for so many.
As I look ahead to my 30th birthday, I’m already considering it as a perfect spot for celebrations – ideal for intimate gatherings, family dinners or romantic evenings. I can only imagine how amazing their Sunday roasts are... Now high on my “must-try” list.
A heartfelt thank you to The Finch's Arms and Leopard Print PR for curating such an unforgettable evening.
