I've always wanted to go pumpkin picking as I am a big fan of Halloween. Last year I took it upon myself to search for a local farm where I could do just that! My friends and I had so much fun, like big kids! It really was a great day out for people of all ages to enjoy.
So, we went again this year and I thought I'd take along my camera to photograph the afternoon so I could share it on the blog to show you where you can go pumpkin picking locally!
Located just a 15-minute drive away from Stamford, you'll find Hill Farm, where can you pick your own fruit and vegetables all year round. But in October, the fun begins as you can take a trip to Hill Farm in Chesterton to pick your own pumpkins! How cool is that?
Complete with large car park, birds of prey and a children's climbing frame, you can visit the farm for a wonderful day out with the family this half term and pick your own pumpkins as well as other fruit and vegetables too!
Hill Farm allow you to borrow one of their many wheelbarrows to collect your pumpkins in and take it around the field with you, however, the wheelbarrows get snapped up super quickly so if you have something you can bring with you instead to carry them, it might help towards getting to the field quicker. Or, you could wait in a queue and admire the birds of prey while the children have a play on the climbing frame.
You can take a walk to the field, it's not very far but make sure you wear sensible footwear as it is a farm after all so there is some quite uneven ground.
Once you've picked your pumpkins you return to the shop where you can pick up some funky looking squashes and other fruit and vegetable you can also buy whilst you're there!
The price of each pumpkin depends on the size (Max price per pumpkin is £10), which is measured using a drop-hole system by a member of staff, and your squashes and vegetables are weighed and priced accordingly.
I hope this gives you an idea of somewhere different to visit this Halloween season for you to take the kids, or maybe like me you also love Halloween and visit with a group of friends!
Take a look at all the photos below of our afternoon at Hill Farm in Chesterton and make sure you send your photo in via email to: rutlandblog@yahoo.com, and let us know if you visit so we can see how you got on!
